The result of the final was, Milford 1-0 Huish.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White, “Great first test for the year 5 ‘B’ Team. Very proud of the team and their performance, it was a top effort from all of them.”

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White, “Really impressed with the team’s overall performance throughout the tournament with each game and each opponent giving us different challenges. Disappointed to just fall short in the Semi Final but hats off to the Birchfield player that scored two amazing free kicks. Finally, it was good to finish on a win and finish 3rd place overall.”

A special well done has to go to Tiago in Bangladesh class who followed up his victory in the first race with another top 10 finish, finishing in 7th place.

Well done to all the runners that took part and represented Milford Junior School! The next race is on Monday 21st October at Huish Park. The home of Yeovil Town Football Club.

2023-2024:

Year 4 Football (A/B Team)

Full Time: Huish 8-0 Milford

On Tuesday 26th March a mixture of year 4 A&B team players made the short trip to Huish. Milford started the game slow with Huish taking an early 2-0 lead. The instruction given to the team was to get tighter to the opposition players and to not give them time on the ball. This had a positive effect and allowed Milford to win the ball higher up the pitch.

During the second quarter the game continued to be even with both teams having chances. However, the Huish attackers found some rhythm and started to find the back of the net putting them 4-0 ahead.

In the third quarter the score line started to become out of reach so the target for the Milford players was to test the keeper as much as possible. This had a positive impact because during the 10 minuets of the third quarter the Huish keeper had to make more saves than in the entire first half of the game.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White “Very impressed with the team’s work rate against a good side. Definitely some work needed in the final third but the attitude from the players was brilliant all game despite the score line. I’m looking forward to getting the players in their respective (A or B) teams next year when they reach year 5 and have a lot more competitive tournaments”.

Year 6 Football (Girls’ Team)

On Monday 25th March the Girls Team had their last football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy.

Results of the tournament fixtures:

Milford 0-4 Holy trinity

Milford 0-0 Countess Gytha

Milford 0-0 Preston

Milford 2-1 Oaklands

Milford 1-0 Birchfield

These results meant that we finished second overall in tournament which is a great achievement and shows how far the girls have progressed this year with their football.

Thoughts of PE Teacher Mr White “Really impressed with the progression of this team through the year and to finish our final tournament in second place behind a very good Holy Trinity side is a great achievement. To finish with a win in our last tournament was a nice ending for the girls as well”.

Year 3 Football (A/B Team)

Full Time: Huish 8-3 Milford

On Thursday 21st March a mixture of year 3 A&B team players made the short trip to Huish. Milford started the game slow with Huish taking an early 2-0 lead. The instruction given to the team was to focus more on their positions and to keep a better shape as a team. This had a positive effect straight away with Milford grabbing a goal back through George in Tonga class just before the end of the first quarter making it 2-1 to Huish.

During the second quarter the game continued to be even with both teams having chances. However, the Huish attackers found some rhythm and started to find the back of the net putting them 4-1 ahead. Milford replied quickly with a great goal from Charlie in Cyprus to make it 4-2 and keep us in the game.

In the third quarter the physicality of the game began to show with the Huish year 4’s finding that extra gear which was too much for Milford to handle meaning the score going into the final quarter was 7-2. In the final quarter Milford showed great resilience to keep going despite the score line and managed to get another goal through Charlie who made a great individual run before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. The full-time score finished Huish 8, Milford 3.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White “Very impressed with the team’s performance against a team the year above. The year 3’s played some great football at times, against a good side which gives me confidence going forward as the get older. My player of the match has to go to Leo from Cyprus class. His defensive display was phenomenal! I’m super proud of the whole team and can’t wait for more fixtures in the future”.

Year 5/6 Football (B Team)

On Monday 18th March the boy’s year /6 B Team had a football tournament at Westfield Academy. This was their first full tournament as a team, having only played in single fixtures previously.

Results of the tournament fixtures:

Milford 0-1 Holy Trinity

Milford 0-4 Preston

Milford 3-0 West Coker

Milford 1-1 Oaklands

Milford 1-0 Birchfield

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White “Great first full tournament for the year 5/6 “B” Team. I was really impressed by their resilience during the games, no matter what the score was. Their effort throughout every game was amazing and brilliant to watch”.

Year 6 Football (A Team)

On Monday 11th March the boy’s year 6 “A” Team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. Due to our regular year 5 players being away on their Mill on the Brue residential some year 6 “B” Team players were called up for their “A” Team debut.

Results of the tournament fixtures:

Milford 2-0 All Saints

Milford 1-0 Oaklands

Milford 0-0 Holy Trinity

Milford 1-1 Birchfield

Milford 1-0 Kingfisher

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White “Really impressed with the team’s performance. Especially the B Team players that stepped up for this tournament. We wouldn’t have been able to get the results we did without them”.

Year 6 Basketball

On Thursday 25th January the year 6 basketball team had their first tournament of the year at Bucklers Mead Academy.

The results from the tournament are listed below:

Milford 0-2 Primrose

Milford 4-0 South Petherton

Milford 0-0 Oaklands

Milford 2-2 Kingfisher

Milford 4-0 Huish

Milford 2-4 Countess Gytha

Milford 0-4 East Coker

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White, “Really enjoyed watching the team, they showed skills that we’ve been working on in basketball club which is great to see. The whole team did brilliant in every game. I have to give Channing in Mozambique a shout out for his two baskets in the game against Huish. He showed excellent technique from far out to hit nothing but net.”

Futsal

Over the last three Mondays 8th, 15th and 22nd January the school has been taking part in mini futsal tournaments against other local schools. This has been a great experience for the children who normally play their football on astro turf or grass pitches.

The teams and where they finished in their respective tournaments are listed below:

Year 5 Boys finished 2nd

Year 5 Girls finished 2nd

Year 6 girls finished 3rd

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White, “It was great to see the players in a more technical game situation where they had less space and time on the ball. All the teams performed really well considering for most of them it was the first-time playing futsal.”

Year 5/6 Dodgeball

South Somerset Finals

On Friday 19th January the year 5/6 dodgeball team had their South Somerset dodgeball tournament at Bucklers Mead.

This was their first competitive tournament as a team and they were very excited to get going.

After the qualifying matches we finished in 4th place just behind South Petherton Junior School meaning it would be them that we had to battle it out against in the 3rd and 4th playoff game. The final result of the playoff game was Milford 4 – 8 South Petherton meaning it was a 4th place overall finish for the team.

Well done to all the team for their performance and representing the school through dodgeball.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White: “It was a great day and experience for the dodgeball team. Taking what they have been learning with Mr Clist in dodgeball club and putting it into practice against other schools in a competitive game situation.”

Year 5/6 Football

Somerset County Finals

On Wednesday 17th January the boy’s “A” Team had their ESFA Somerset County Finals football tournament at Strode College.

The boys reached this stage thanks to their success at the South Somerset tournament back in November.

Despite performing very well, showing great fight and battle, the boys didn’t make it past the group stage. Some stand out goals during our group stage games came from Archie in Mozambique, Parker in Barbados and an amazing free kick from Eryk in Malta class.

Well done to all the team for reaching this stage of the competition and representing Milford Junior School at the Somerset County Finals.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White: “Couldn’t be happier with the performance and effort from the boys today. Despite not getting the result we wanted to represent the school against the best standard teams across Somerset was a pleasure and a joy to be apart of.”

Year 5 Football (B Team)

Full Time: Huish 2-9 Milford

On Monday 20th November the year 5 B Team had their first match of the year against Huish. The boys started the game a bit cautious, however still managed to take a 0-1 lead going into the second quarter. The second quarter the team found their comfort zone and started to play with a bit more freedom and speed. This was shown in the score line because come the end of the second quarter going in a half time 1-5 up.

The third and fourth quarter we switched some of the boy’s positions which allowed some different players to get on the scoresheet. Come the final whistle the final score was Huish 2-9 Milford with every single player playing their part. Special mentions have to go to Vinnie in Botswana class who scored five goals and man of the match Jamie in New Zealand class who scored three goals and showed great fitness and stamina in his box to box midfield performance.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White: “For a lot of the game I think the game was closer than the score line suggests but the boys proved to be very clinical in front of goal and also showed great resilience to keep Huish out for majority of the game. I was very impressed with the all-round performance of Jamie in New Zealand class which is why he was awarded man of the match.”

Year 5/6 Football (Girls’ Team)

On Tuesday 14th November, the Girls Team had their ESFA South Somerset football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy.

Results of the group stage fixtures:

Milford 0-0 Herne View

Milford 1-1 Birchfield

Milford 4-0 East Coker

These results meant that we finished second in our group and qualified for the semi-final of the tournament.

Semi-final result:

Milford 0-0 St Barths (Penalties 3-4)

A top defensive display meant the girls managed to hold out against a strong St Barths side to take the game to penalties where unfortunately we came up short losing 3-4 in the shootout. Congratulations to St Barths who went onto win the final.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White: “Couldn’t be happier with the performance and effort from the girls today. With Covid and the school closure we’ve missed out on this tournament in recent years, so to return with a great run to the semi final and to take the eventual winners to penalties was a great effort. Hopefully we can go that little bit further next year.”

Year 5/6 Netball Team

On Thursday 9th November, the netball team had their second tournament of the year at Westfield Academy.

Results of the fixtures:

Milford 4-1 Chilthorne Domer

Milford 1-0 Oaklands

Milford 0-1 Huish

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White: “Out of all the sport teams at Milford it’s this netball team that have shown the biggest improvement and progression as a team and their understanding of the game from where they started. Still got some things to work on but it’s great to see what we have been practicing in after school club being shown by the team in competitive game situations.”

Year 5/6 Football (A Team)

On Tuesday 7th November, the boy’s “A” Team had their ESFA South Somerset football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy.

Results of the group stage fixtures:

Milford 3-0 Castle Cary

Milford 3-1 Huish

Milford 0-0 Herne View

These results meant that we finished top of our group and qualified for the semi-final of the tournament.

Semi-final result:

Milford 2-0 St Michaels

After a top performance and some brilliant goals from Parker and Bobby in Barbados class the boys were into the final where they would face Holy Trinity.

Final result:

Milford 1-0 Holy Trinity

Another top performance crowned the boy’s South Somerset Champions! A brilliant goal from Eryk in Malta class and a brilliant defensive display including a world class save from goal keep Noah was enough to earn us the win and qualify for the County Finals tournament at Strode College on the 17th January.

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White: “Couldn’t be happier with the performance and effort from the boys today. With Covid and the school closure we’ve missed out on this tournament in recent years, so to return with a win is a great feeling. I’m looking forward to the next challenge on the 17th January where we will come up against some other top teams.”

Year 3/4 Football Team

On Monday 6th November, the year 3/4 football team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. This was only their second tournament together as a team since coming back in September and their performance was brilliant.

Results of the tournament fixtures:

Milford 0-1 Huish

Milford 2-1 Ilchester

Milford 1-0 Preston

Milford 0-0 Oaklands

Milford 2-0 Chilthorne Domer

Thoughts of PE Teacher Mr White, “Very happy with the team’s performance and how they have progressed since their first tournament, especially in the attacking areas. Our threat in front of goal was a lot more noticeable this tournament and the boys showed great composure in front of goal.”

Cross Country

On Wednesday 27th September, Milford took part in the first cross country event of the school year at Yeovil Rugby Club. We had 11 runners in total who all did amazing considering the tough weather conditions.

A special well done has to go to Tanaya in Bangladesh class who finished a remarkable 15th place! This is an amazing achievement not only because it’s a great finish but because her race included around 100 runners.

Well done to all the runners that took part and represented Milford Junior School! The next race is on Wednesday 18th October at Aldon Hill.

Year 5/6 Football (B Team)

On Monday 18th September, the boy’s year 5/6 B Team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. This was their first tournament together as a team and for two of the boys it was their first taste of competitive football having not played for a team outside of school.

Results of the tournament fixtures:

Milford 0-0 Chilthorne Domer

Milford 0-1 South Petherton

Milford 0-1 Prim Rose

Milford 1-0 Oaklands

Milford 0-0 Holy Trinity

Milford 1-0 Birchfield

Milford 0-1 Kingfisher

Thoughts of PE teacher Mr White, “Great first test for the B Team. This tournament was all about looking at different players in different positions and trying to figure out the best structure for the team. Due to our large squad, we are looking at having a year 6 B Team and a Year 5 B Team to allow the players to have more minutes on the pitch when selected for the tournaments”.

2022-2023:

Cricket Fixture - Somerset vs Hampshire

On Monday 10th July, about 35 pupils went to Taunton to watch a cricket game. When we went into the stadium, there were a lot of schools and spectators already there. I was lucky enough to get one of the players' autographs before the match started.  Over the course of day, we watched about 3 hours of cricket, completed some activities in our booklets and visited the museum whilst it was raining! Overall it was a great experience.

By Gracie and Huey (Kenya Class)

Football Fixture

The Y5/6 A Team took part in their last fixture of the school year on Monday 26th June at Bucklers Mead Academy. Our results were as follows: Milford 0-0 Kingfisher, Milford 3-0 Chilthorne, Milford 1-0 Birchfield, Milford 0-1 St Micheals, Milford 2-0 Countess Gytha. The boys did extremely well in their last tournament winning 4, 1 draw and 1 loss.

Tennis Tournament

On Wednesday 28th June, 8 lucky children from Fiji class went to Johnson Park to compete in a tennis tournament against 5 other local schools. We had to eat our lunch early so we could walk over in time. To begin with, we practiced with members of our own team which was really fun but there were balls flying everywhere because it was a really small space! After that, the coach explained the rules which were quite simple and we got started on the real matches. We started off playing 1v1 matches and the winner got a trophy (a cone) to take back to their teacher. Because some schools didn’t bring enough players, we had to sit out a couple of times but all together we had 6 matches. At the end of these, we had won 32 cones so we came 3rd overall. We were really pleased with that score and did much better than we thought we would. At the end of the day, we played an 8v8 match which was really fun. Mrs Fahey even wanted to join our team and luckily, she hit some big ones and got us a couple of points.

Parker and Raisa

Year 5/6 Football (A Team)

On Tuesday 28th March The Year 5/6 A Team made the short trip to Huish primary school for a football match. The match was played on their astro turf so there were some slight adaptations to the rules that were similar to a Volta (street football) style match.

A very dominant display saw the Milford boys go into half time 1-5 up. The second half saw very little change with the Milford boys dominating possession and chances, scoring another four goals to make the score 1-9 at full time.

Another stat that’s not usually seen is every outfield player managed to score a goal which shows the boys versatility when performing to a high level in different positions.

Massive well done to all the boys on the great victory.

Cross Country

On Wednesday 22nd March Milford pupils took part in the final cross-country event of the school year at Mudford Rec. We had 12 runners in total who all did amazing, with some impressive finishes from some of the children in their races that are out of approximately 100 runners.

A special well done has to go to Ruby in Malta class who finished 9th in her race and has been selected to run for Yeovil in the area cross country race. We would also like to give Tanaya in Canada class a mention because despite being in year 3, took part in the year 4 girls race and came an impressive 13th place against children the year above.

The biggest Well done has to go to all 12 runners because despite the horrible conditions, they put on their best performances in each race.

Well done to all the runners that took part and represented Milford Junior School and good luck to Ruby in her area cross country race.

Year 3/4 Football Team

On Monday 20th March the year 3/4 football team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. For four of our year 3’s it was their first tournament representing Milford Junior School.

The boys started the tournament well with a dominant display against East Coker A Team, however they couldn’t find the back of the net and the game finished 0-0. Games number two and three saw us earn 1-0 victories over Kingfisher and East Coker B Team with goals coming from Billy in Kenya class and Harry in Bangladesh class.

Game number 4 saw us take on Birchfield in what was our most competitive game of the tournament. Bobby from Fiji class put us 1-0 up with a great finish into the top corner from far out. But minutes before the end of the game, Birchfield equalized despite a great double save from Harvey in Samoa class.

Game number five had a similar feel to the first game where we dominated the play but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net which meant another 0-0 draw. Finally, game number six saw us lose our first game after a brilliant individual play from the Preston player to go past two of our players and place the ball into the top corner. We tried to find a reply but despite applying constant pressure couldn’t find the equalizer.

A great performance from the whole team earning us two wins, three draws and only one loss. Also, a big well done to the four year 3’s making their debut for the school. These boys were Harvey and Joe in Samoa class, James in Canada class and Ethan in Tonga class.

Year 5/6 Football (Girls’ Team)

On Monday 13th March the girls took part in a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. At this tournament, we had five year 6’s and four year 5’s including Eva in Barbados class who was taking part in her first tournament for the school.

We had a mixed start to the tournament with two 0-0 draws against Kingfisher and Oaklands despite dominating possession and chances to score. Because of this, the girls were really motivated to make sure they got the win in the next game which was against St Gilda’s. This match ended in a victory with us winning 2-0 with Evie and Layla from Mozambique class scoring the goals.

Game number four saw us earn our second win of the tournament after another good performance earning us a 2-0 win against East Coker. Goals being scored by Ruby in Malta class, one of which was created with a lovely through ball pass by Eva in Barbados class. Game number five was our toughest match of the tournament against Countess Gytha. The game was end to end and could have gone either way but ended in a 0-0 draw which was a fair result. Finally, game number six which was our best display of the tournament, earning us a 4-0 victory. Two goals coming from Ruby in Malta class and then one each from Jessie and Evie in Mozambique class.

A massive well done to goal keeper Connie in Namibia class and defenders Jessie in Mozambique class and Keeley in Botswana class who conceded 0 goals throughout the whole tournament.

Year 5 Football (B Team)

On Monday 6th March the boys’ year 5 B Team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. This was their first tournament together as a team and for four of the boys it was their first taste of competitive football, having not played for a team outside of school.

Our first two fixtures started well, drawing 0-0 against Ilchester and winning 1-0 against East Coker. Credit to all the boys for our defensive display in the first two games and also Archie in Singapore class who scored a well worked goal taking on two players before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Game number three saw us draw once again. The score finished 1-1 with the Milford boys going in front early through Archie scoring another great goal. However, we couldn’t hold on for the win as Countess Gytha grabbed one back late on after their striker lobbed the ball over our goalkeeper into the back of the net. Game number four saw us get back to winning ways with a comfortable 1-0 win over South Petherton. Archie getting his 3rd of the tournament.

Game number 5 against Birchfield was our hardest test of the tournament. Going 1-0 down early on and Birchfield dominating the play, the boys had to defend really well just to stay in the game. Moments later we gave away a penalty that was fortunately put wide and gave us our last bit of hope to find the equalizer. In the last minute of the game Lyric in Barbados class broke away on the attack, but only to have his shot blocked. He worked really hard to win the ball back and deliver a cross that landed at his class mate Archie’s feet. Archie showed great control and composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner to equalize.

The boys were really happy and proud with their performance overall and loved the opportunity to represent the school in a sporting fixture.

Cross Country

On Wednesday 1st March Milford took part in the second cross country event of the new year at Bucklers Mead Academy. We had 12 runners in total who all did amazing, with half the children finishing in the top 20 of their races that are out of approximately 100 runners.

A special well done has to go to Halimot in Bangladesh class and Ruby in Malta class who both finished 15th in their respective races. We would also like to give Tanaya in Canada class a mention because despite being in year 3, she took part in the year 4 girls race and came an impressive 25th place against children the year above.

The biggest mention of them all has to go to Billy from Kenya class who achieved a bronze medal in the year 4 boys race finishing a remarkable 3rd place!

Well done to all the runners that took part and represented Milford Junior School! The next race is on Wednesday 22nd March at Mudford Rec.

Year 3/4 Football Team

On Monday 6th February, the year 3/4 football team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. This was their first tournament together as a team and the first tournament the year 3’s had represented Milford Junior School in.

The results didn’t quite go our way despite some good team performances throughout the tournament, with some great individual goals coming from Billy in Kenya class and Hugo in Cyprus class.

Considering this was the first time the boys had played together in a tournament for Milford, their team work and work rate was really good. As they were always encouraging and supporting each other until the end of every match. A big well done to the whole team!

Cross Country

On Wednesday 1st February Milford took part in their first cross country event at Yeovil showground. We had 12 runners in total who all did amazingly well, with the majority finishing in the top 20 of their races, that are out of approximately 100 runners.

A special well done has to go to Halimot in Bangladesh class who finished a remarkable 6th place! This is an amazing achievement not only because it’s a great finish but because it was her first long-distance cross-country race.

Well done to all the runners that took part and represented Milford Junior School! The next race is on the 1st March with the venue still to be confirmed.

Year 5/6 Football (Girls’ Team)

On Monday 30th January, the girls took part in a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. At this tournament we had six experienced year 6’s who have played in many tournaments before and we also had three year 5’s who were competing in their first tournament for the school.

We had a brilliant start to the tournament winning our first game 2-0 with goals coming from Ruby in Malta class and Evie in Mozambique class. In our second game we continued our winning ways against Martock who despite having a very good individual, couldn’t stop Ruby’s brilliant solo run and goal which eventually went on to earn us the 2-0 win. Game number three saw us suffer our first defeat against St Michael’s after they scored a deflected free kick and game number four saw us get our first draw of the tournament against Countess Gytha finishing 0-0. Our last game saw us take on East Coker and after not winning our last two games the girls were more motivated than ever. We went on to win the game 2-0 in what was our best performance of the tournament.

A massive well done to goal keeper Connie in Namibia class and defenders Jessie in Mozambique class and Keeley in Botswana class who only conceded one goal in six games. Also to our midfield group of Layla in Mozambique class, Scarlett in Vanuatu class, Amelia in New Zealand class and Chloe in Botswana class. And lastly our attackers Evie in Mozambique class who scored two goals and Ruby in Malta class who scored four goals.

Year 5/6 Football (A Team)

On Friday 27th January, the Y5/6 A Team took part in the U11 Kids Cup at Yeovil Town football club. This was an all-day event with the boys first game being played at 10am against Milborne Port.

From the first whistle the boys set a great pace and tempo winning 4-0 in their first game with Luis in Namibia class scoring a hat trick. Game number two we came up against a well-organized Maiden Beach side who kept us out for the majority of the game. When we eventually managed to get our first goal from Eryk in Botswana Class, gaps opened up with Maiden Beach trying to find an equalizer meaning we were able to add a second and third goal to finish the game 3-0 winners. After two wins from two, we moved onto our third game which was our most physical match up of the tournament against East Coker. Despite the battle both sides put on, we did manage to create some great chances through playing some lovely football. One of these chances was arguably our best team goal of the tournament with Lincoln from Mozambique class making a brilliant last-ditch tackle to then feed the ball through to Eryk who went on a brilliant run to set up Luis for the goal that eventually turned out to be the winner in a 2-1 win.

We now entered the second part of the group stage and we sat comfortably at the top of the group with the same 3 teams to play again. These results finished Milford 3-1 Milborne Port, Milford 1-0 Maiden Beach and Milford 0-0 East Coker. This meant we qualified for the quarter finals with 16 out of a possible 18 points and a goal difference of +11.

After lunch, we moved onto the knockout stage where we came up against South Petherton. The boys started the game a bit slow with South Petherton having the better chances but when we found our rhythm, Luis who had been in great goal scoring form today found the back of the net to give us the 1-0 lead. After the first goal, the boys gained a lot of confidence and went on to finish the game 4-0 winners. This victory put us through to the semifinal to play Manor Court. Throughout the game the Milford boys dominated possession and chances however they couldn’t find the back of the net due to some brilliant defensive play from Manor Court. With the game finishing 0-0 we went to penalties. Manor Court converted three out of three and we were only able to convert 2 out of three meaning Manor Court progressed to the final and went onto win that game on penalties as well.

A massive well done has to go to the boys for not only getting to the semifinals but their individual performances throughout. The goal keeper Oliver from Malta class and the defenders Lincoln from Mozambique class, Gorge from Vanuatu class and Kyle from Botswana class only conceded two goals in eight matches. The box to box midfield shifts from Ethan in Mozambique class and Riley from Vanuatu class, the all-round game of Eryk from Botswana class going on loads of runs to assist Luis on multiple occasions, and lastly Luis from Namibia class who finished the tournament with the golden boot scoring 14 goals in 10 matches.

23.01.23: Year 6 Football (B Team)

On Monday 23rd January the boy’s year 6 B Team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy. This was their first tournament together as a team and for five of the seven boys it was their first taste of competitive football having not played for a team outside of school.

Our first two fixtures started really well, winning 1-0 against Oaklands and holding out for a 0-0 draw against a strong Birchfield side. Credit to all the boys for our defensive display in the first two games and also Riley in Vanuatu class who scored a well worked goal bending the ball from the right-hand side into the far corner. Game number three saw us see defeat for the first time against Holy Trinity who narrowly won 1-0 in a back and forth game.

Game number 4 saw us get back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over South Petherton. Goals coming from Kwaku in Mozambique class and Harvey in Malta class. Game number 5 was arguably the most entertaining game of the tournament despite a 0-0 score line with Countess Gytha. The game was end to end with big tackles and great chances for both teams. Game six and seven unfortunately saw us end the tournament with two losses. A 1-0 defeat to Preston who scored a brilliant free kick and 2-1 to East Coker who scored a brilliant winning goal from far out to lob the keeper.

Despite ending the tournament, a bit down hearted the boys were really happy and proud with their performance overall and loved the opportunity to represent the school in a sporting fixture.

16.01.23: Year 5/6 Football (A Team)

On Monday 16th January, the boys A Team had a football tournament at Bucklers Mead Academy in preparation for their big upcoming tournament at Yeovil Town Football Club on Friday 27th January. With two boys unavailable, we were down to only 7 players meaning all the boys would play every minute of every match.

Despite a dominant display and an early shot from Luis in Namibia class that hit the post, our first game finished in a 0-0 draw against Martock. Game number two against East Coker was the opposite. East Coker put us on the back foot early on and applied a lot of pressure throughout the game but great defensive displays from George in Vanuatu class, Erik in Nambia class and the goal keeper Oliver in Malta class meant we were able to hold out for a 0-0 draw.

In our next three games we found our scoring form with goals coming from Luis in Namibia class and Lincoln in Mozambique class on more than one occasion. As well as giving these boys credit for scoring the goals, a big well done has to be given to our two other midfielders Ethan in Mozambique class and Kyle in Botswana class for their great work rate and build up play in every game.

The boys are looking forward to their big tournament on Friday 27th January with the full squad available.

12.01.23: Year 5/6 Girls Futsal

On Thursday 12th January five members of the girl’s football team took part in a futsal tournament at Westfield Academy. In total the team played 5 matches, three in the sports hall and two in the sports dome.

Our first game was against Oaklands which finished in a 1-1 draw with Ruby from Malta class scoring the goal. Game number two was against South Petherton which saw us earn our first victory with a 2-1 win. Goals coming from Ruby in Malta class and Amelia in New Zealand class.

Games three, four and five all finished in 0-0 draws which is where we have to give credit to our defenders Layla in Mozambique class and Keeley in Botswana class for keeping the oppositions attackers out. Lastly, a big well done needs to go to Jessie in Mozambique class who volunteered to go in goal with our first-choice goal keeper unavailable. Jessie also played a big part in keeping three clean sheets in our last three games.
